Donnycarney West Community Association (DCWA) represents a small and established community of 700 houses bounded by Malahide Road, Collins Avenue and Belton Park Road. Active since 2007, it was re-formed after a long period of dormancy. Donnycarney is one of the historic ‘Villages of Dublin’ made famous in a publication by historian Jimmy Wren, a local resident.
The houses were built in the 1920s/30s by Dublin Corporation and private builders.
DWCA comprises a committee of volunteer representatives from each of the roads. The association is funded by a small annual subscription from households and support from Dublin City Council, which is used for local improvements, such as planting, cleaning, and social events.
The association’s aims are – to build a community that looks after all its residents; to make Donnycarney bloom with flower boxes, baskets etc; to make Donnycarney litter, graffiti, and anti-social behaviour free; and to work in co-operation with local business.
