FleadhCavan has hosted the Annual Fleadh for the last two years. The local Comhaltas group this year decided to expand the Fleadh to embrace other activities so that other art forms could find their niche.

The traditional weekend event was expanded to eleven days with a cross border and cross community element incorporated. The Comhaltas group were assisted by the other Comhaltas groups in the County and 1500 volunteers from 83 community organisations in staging 316 events catering for 10,000 competitors from all over the world at 23 venues.

It is estimated that 300,000 people attended the Fleadh generating €40m for the local economy. To ensure a lasting legacy for the town the group worked in a strategic partnership with the County Council, Chamber of Commerce and Fáilte Ireland. This is being marketed as the first green Fleadh with 3000 trees being planted to compensate for the carbon impact.
