The village through the local business association and Development Association, LEADER Partnership Co. Ltd. and Sligo County Council has developed projects to make Strandhill a hub of tourism for the benefit of locals and visitors alike.

A visit to Strandhill is a breath-taking experience replete with stunning scenery, historical and mythological interest woven into a vibrant community. Hosting the best pubs and restaurants filled with locals balancing work/life ideal and beautiful surroundings, Strandhill is an ideal retreat. Local walks, weekly people’s market, surfing, an annual Warriors Festival, family activities, sporting initiatives and a thriving local economy demonstrate that Strandhill encompasses what is best about good community spirit.

The judges on this occasion and for the third time only in the 12 year history of the competition were unable to separate two excellent entries in a highly competitive category and so decided to award joint winners.

The second of these is the story of a remarkable seaside village. The judges were extremely impressed by the sheer effort to demonstrate in a positive manner the progressiveness and cohesiveness of its community involving just about everybody.That community has recognised the importance of a stunning location and of a sustainable local economy to bring vibrancy to its place.
