Winner: Kilteely, Co Limerick
Summary
Kilteely is a small, energetic, rural community taking its pride in continuous energy and enthusiasm in the development and improvement of the locality. Over the years Kilteely has achieved great success in the Limerick In Bloom Competition, achieving overall winner in 2012 and increased marks each year from Tidy Towns. Through hard work and collaboration the village environment has been enhanced to a high standard.
The community worked to improve derelict buildings and sites with flowers, shrubs,signage, with historic pathways, wildlife information, etc. and each year new projects are targetted. Great support was forthcoming from local organisations in the parish of Kilteely Dromkeen, from Limerick City and County Council and from Ballyhoura. Although the community is relatively small it has a rich and energetic community that prides itself in success and endeavours to create a rich and harmonious creation through sports, culture, music, song and drama and to celebrate its history and great tradition.
Citation
As for the Category winner the judges were impressed in every respect from the moment they arrived. It was clear there had been a truly remarkable input from young and old in this small rural community. This was an outstanding entry with care for the built and natural environment much in evidence and a range of services of which to be proud.
