Clonegal, Co Carlow
Summary
Clonegal – Cluain na nGall, “the Meadow of the Stranger” is set in a valley between the Blackstairs and Wicklow Mountains, straddling the meeting place of the rivers Slaney and Derry where the counties Carlow, Wicklow and Wexford meet. Clonegal is an enchanting place. Surrounded by natural beauty and modern conveniences within easy reach, but most specially Clonegal is a place steeped in historical significance. The community of Clonegal are very conscious of this legacy they have inherited. They have worked hard to preserve this involving all sectors of the community and in partnership with the Statutory agencies. This is evident through their achievements of being the Tidiest Village in Ireland two years in a row and representing Ireland successfully in Entente Floral. The Wicklow way, the South Leinster drive, Huntington Castle and the Weaver’s Cottage attract many visitors to the area, whom the community warmly welcome as captured in their motto “Arrive as a stranger and leave as a friend”.
