Special Award

Winner: Traveller Visibility and Cork Traveller Women’s Network, Cork City

Summary:

Traveller Visibility Group and Cork Traveller Women’s Network represent and advocate for the Traveller Community in Cork City and beyond, and have established themselves as leading stakeholders in the community development and community health landscape of the city over many years. Through a commitment to the principles of community development, and strong ambition to make voices of Cork Travellers heard on a local and national policy level, these groups have worked closely to position themselves at the vanguard of progress in this realm. More recently, recognition of Traveller Ethnicity, adoption of the Cork Traveller Accommodation Plan and the reformation of the Traveller Interagency Group have been milestones of these groups’ work. The nomination for Community Resilience reflects this work but particularly the work of both organisations during the pandemic. In this time, TVG and CTWN worked tirelessly to inform, support and prepare their communities in the face of a phenomenal challenge and were invaluable inter-agency partners.
