"Megargy,The Megargy and District Game and Conservation Society (MDGCS) was established in 1989. The Society works in agreement with local landowners to improve the landscape and habitats and recent restoration projects include an ancient roadway known locally as the ‘Dublin Road’, and four old mill dams.

School children from the local primary schools are brought on visits where they learn about local flora and fauna and

about the history of the ‘Old Dublin/ Derry’ roadway. All of the work is carried out by volunteers.

The work of the community group here is admirable. They’ve carried out an impressive array of environmental and improvement projects, and have involved schoolchildren on a cross-community basis to establish mutual respect. They’ve already been rightly recognised for their conservation and community work, and embody the true spirit of volunteerism.

The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in this idyllic rural community.
