Summary:

Ballyporeen has a dynamic, proactive community that has been revitalized in recent years through developments in pre/primary schools, sporting facilities, community centre and community spaces. The Community Council is a key driving force in development. Events organized throughout the year include – music festival, bingo, cards, cinema club, Santa experience etc. A street painting façade initiative has recently been completed. Challenges and changes have been faced in recent times and ensure community spirit remains vibrant. The Community Council incorporates all groups/businesses into discussions about community enhancement. This allows for a coherent approach to community/regional development. Key achievements include a new community centre, children’s playground, sensory garden with traffic calming measures and street upgrades to enhance the village. Work is in progress on work hub spaces/ desk space for 2nd/3rd level students for study and there are collaborative projects with local primary school and sporting groups for a village walkway and astroturf facilities.

An international profile and reputation gained in the recent past has in no way been allowed to diminish due in large part to the local group members’ passion, innovation and enthusiasm.
