Kilteevan, Co Roscommon

“If we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere.” Seamus Heaney.

2020 was an extraordinary time of hardship, loneliness, uncertainty and fear. Like other communities, Kilteevan had its share of hardship and loss. However, one positive thing happened, we entered the Pride of Place competition.

More than ever before, community was the vital lifeline. From June 16th the date of entry until the Virtual Award Ceremony on November 21st., we wintered 2020 out, interconnected, around our common goal.

Our result:  Runner Up Award in the Creative Place Category. Our small crossroads village was doubly proud to be second to Dingle Food Festival.

Awards like this help to build confidence and capacity in a hardworking community. We feel reassured that we are critical drivers of creative, sustainable change.

Pride of Place 2020 was for us a welcome relief from a Covid-19 dominated world. In a safer future, we will celebrate our community and creativity.
