Winner: Maria Goretti Foundation, Co. Louth

Summary

The Maria Goretti Foundation is a community driven initiative which provides invaluable respite care for children with disabilities, and life limiting conditions, on the Cooley peninsula. Driven initially by a local businessman who identified the need for such a facility in the area, this project was finally brought to fruition, after many years of dedication, when it opened its doors in February 2014. The site was gifted by a local resident, and due to the sustained efforts of the local community, this state of the art residential facility now provides social, sport and leisure activities for those who need it most. The Foundation has at its heart the care and dignity of children and their families. With an over-arching goal to further the cause of children with disabilities, the foundation is also fully committed to responding creatively to the needs of children with disabilities into the future.
