Summary:

The historical village of Straide is centrally located in County Mayo on the N58 between Foxford and Castlebar. It is a small rural community of 240 households with a vibrant community spirit and great pride in a rich local heritage. It is the birthplace of Michael Davitt, founder of The Land League and today the heart of the village is home to the award-winning Michael Davitt Museum, alongside the beautiful 12th C Abbey. Behind the Abbey is the Straide Davitt Community Hall built in 1984and currently undergoing a major community-led upgrade and refurbishment. St Peter & Paul RC Church, consecrated in1916, sits majestically on the hill overlooking the village. As a sporting community they are particularly proud of their successful football, soccer and badminton clubs and the recently opened a disabled Anglers facility on the Banks of the River Moy. They have a strong history of cross-community collaboration with an emphasis on inclusive community events, festivals and gatherings.
