Winner: Coalisland & Dungannon Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership – Health, Co Tyrone

Summary

The project delivers a range of health and well-being programmes to people living in the Coalisland & Dungannon Neighbourhood Renewal areas. The project is focused on tackling inequalities in health by targeting those most in need and most at risk of developing or experiencing health problems. It has been successful in its impact on the health and well-being of those people living in the Neighbourhood Renewal Areas and will leave a legacy of improved lifestyle choices and greater uptake with GP’S, dentists and other health services. The project is administered by the Southern Health & Social Care Trust in a partnership approach with Council, LILAC Cancer Care, Niamh Louise Foundation, Breakthru Drugs and alcohol awareness and interventions, Preventative health initiatives include provision of complementary therapies to those affected by cancer, provision of tailored programmes to educate young people and parents on the effects of substance misuse and befriending sessions to those directly affected by suicide.

Citation

The winning project impressed the judges by the extent of its outreach to so many impacted groups of people in its effort to improve the health and well-being of its community. The quality of the presentations, the excellent support from so many agencies, volunteer support groups and individual examples of the project impact offer great opportunities and hope for a long and healthy future.
